    Facts about suicide

    - suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people aged 15-24

    - in Missouri, there were 101 completed adolescent suicides reported in 1998

    - 24 young people residing in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area completed suicide in 1998, it is believed many more went unreported

    - it is estimated that 15% of automobile accidents can be attributed to suicidal actions

    - for each completed adolescent suicide, there may be as many as 150-200 teens who will attempt

    - the highest rate of youth suicide occurs between Friday evening and Monday morning, and in the months of April & May

    - 90% of adolescent suicide attempts occur in the home between 3:00pm and midnight

    - it is estimated that 1 out of every 10 adolescents will give serious consideration to their thoughts of suicide

    - 80% of adolescents who complete suicide have made previous attempts or have given warning signs of their intentions
